Gemacom Tech provides stabilizer systems and ingredient blends for customers across Brazil and some other South American countries, predominantly in the dairy category.
The transaction to establish the new joint venture, which will be known as Tate & Lyle Gemacom Tech, was completed on 4 December 2014. Tate & Lyle has an option to acquire the remaining equity interest in Gemacom Tech at a later stage. Gemacom Tech has annual sales of around US$30 million. Henrique de Castro Neves, General Manager of Tate & Lyle Gemacom Tech said: “Tate & Lyle and Gemacom Tech are two highly complementary businesses with the same focus on quality and customer service. Together, we will be able to offer our customers a significantly enhanced range of products and technical expertise.
The Howbetter Food Company was founded in 1993 and from 2009 to 2013 operated a joint venture with the Belgian company, SBI. Howbetter was one of the first domestic food blending businesses in China to be awarded a licence to operate under new regulations put in place in 2010.
Tate & Lyle Howbetter provides stabiliser systems and ingredient solutions to customers across China, mainly in the dairy and beverage categories, as well as some pastes, granules and imported single ingredients. It operates from a blending facility in Suqian and an applications laboratories in the nearby City of Xuzhou, both in Jiangsu Province.

As a world-leading supplier of locust bean gum, producing the Cesagum® brand at the site in Noto, Sicily, the company significantly strengthened Tate & Lyle's overall texturants offering.
Founded in 1975, CCI became a recognised leader in dairy stabilisers and emulsifier systems, working closely with customers to develop ingredient systems for the North American market. CCI also brought Tate & Lyle new expertise in beverage flavours, and vitamin and mineral fortification.
